There’s Been a Production Extension for the 2022 Buick Encore

The 2022 Buick Encore received a production extension that will span until autumn (2022). As a result, the Buick Encore will proceed with production at the General Motors Bupyeong plant in Korea. However, production will cease by November 30th (2022) instead of the initial discontinuation date of August 31st (2022). 

Initially, we detailed that the Encore would bid farewell to the Buick lineup a couple of months back. Instead, the automaker will use the extra production capacity from the regular Encore’s discontinuation to expand on the production of the new Chevy Trailblazer. 

The compact Buick acquainted itself with enthusiasts’ hearts with the 2013 model. The 2022 model year serves as the tenth iteration in the first generation for the definitive nameplate—however, the 2022 Encore ages incredibly with time with a 1.4 Liter Inline-4 LE2 gas engine. The zestful engine delivers 155 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque while cruising on a GM Gamma 2 platform. Moreover, the compact Buick features a six-speed automatic transmission that provides power to the front wheels, and for those who crave all-wheel-drive, it is optional. 

With the extinction of the Buick Encore comes a reduction in trim levels. Therefore, the 2022 model year holds one trim level, and the lone survivor goes by Preferred. Previously, the Buick SUV had two trim levels for the 2021 model. Those two trim levels were the Base and the Preferred. The 2020 and 2019 models held four trims, while the 2018 model offered an immense six trims. 

Since announcing the discontinuation of the Buick Encore, sales have depleted to 52 percent in 2021. General Motors sold over 21,000 units, but in 2020 the Encore reached over 41,000 enthusiasts. The real show-stopper is the Buick Encore GX, which saw a sales increase of 59 percent. The Encore GX skyrocketed from over 71,000 units in 2021 compared to the stagnant 44,000 units the Encore GX sold in 2020. Regardless, there’s no denying the value of the Buick Encore. Consumer Reports cited the 2022 Buick Encore as the highest-ranking SUV in the entry-level luxury segment.
