The 2022 Hummer EV Edition Against the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV

General Motors premiered the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV early this Janruary (2022) at the Consumer Electronics Show. Essentially, one powerhouse wasn’t enough, so General Motors cranked it up a notch and electrified the popular Chevy Silverado. Similar to the 2022 GMC Hummer EV, the Silverado EV generated a great deal of excitement. Even though the 2024 Chevy Silverado isn’t GM’s first all-electric pickup truck, the GMC Hummer EV paved the way on the road to perfection. Here’s a breakdown of GM’s electric pickup lineup. 

Powertrain 

The Hummer EV and the Chevy Silverado EV employ GM’s Ultium battery plus Ultium motor technologies. Yet, even with the same battery, the output specs differ substantially. For example, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition renders 664 horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the other Silverado EV WT produces a decent 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 generates 1,000 horsepower and a magnificent 11,500 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to Watts to Freedom (WTF) mode, the GMC Hummer Edition 1 torque is anything short of an enticing adventure.  

0-60 MPH 

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV First Edition sprints from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. However, the OG of GM’s electric pickup takes the cake. The Hummer EV Edition 1 propels as fast as anyone can blink, from 0 to 60 in three seconds. 

Towing Capacity 

Towing capacity and payloads are incredibly crucial to any pickup truck. For example, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition offers a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds with a payload upwards of 1,300 pounds. The Silverado EV WT attained a 20,000-pound towing capacity and a 1,200-pound payload. At the same time, the GMC Hummer EV gains a 7,500-pound towing capacity and a 1,300-pound payload.  

The Winner Is

The jury is out on the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV until GM confirms its specs. However, the 2022 GMC Hummer Edition 1 comprises many beautiful features into a monstrous masterpiece. Features such as the Crab Walk provide rear-steering turns upwards of 10 degrees. The Hummer EV’s off-road adventure is unparalleled thanks to Extract mode. The Extract modes adaptive air ride system lifts the Hummer half afoot, so the thrills exist beyond the water or any other obstacle that other automakers fail to propel through.
