The 2024 GMC Yukon Will Maintain its Duramax Diesel Engine

Red GMC Yukon SUV Dirt Road

According to the latest reports, the 2024 GMC Yukon will deliver some of the same features we love and appreciate about the 2023 model. The GMC SUV initially anticipated that the 2024 model would introduce a mid-cycle update with numerous changes and improvements. However, the latest updates suggest that there won’t be any drastic alterations. Furthermore, the 2024 GMC Yukon will still come with the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine instead of the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine that was expected initially.

To bring everyone up to speed, the Yukon initially anticipated that the 2024 model year would introduce a new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine to replace the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine currently offered. The new diesel engine was supposed to launch alongside the 2024 model-year refresh. However, General Motors revealed that the refreshed version of the GMC Yukon will most likely debut for the 2025 model year or later. Therefore, the 2024 GMC Yukon will continue to offer the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine as the optional diesel powerplant.

The revamped 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine has several upgrades over the current 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine. The motor upgrades include a retuned turbo compressor, improved temperature controls, new steel pistons, and new fuel injectors. As a result of the latest improvements, the LZ0 engine will deliver an output of 305 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 495 pound-feet of torque at 2,750 rpm. The new production represents a 10 percent increase in power and a 7.6 percent increase in torque compared to the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, which currently produces 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. The LZ0 engine is now available in the 2023 and newer model years for the GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup trucks.

Please remember that the 2024 GMC Yukon will cruise along on the GM T1 platform while production commences at GM’s Arlington plant in Texas.
