The 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate’s Interior is All That!

Last year (2021), Sierra enthusiasts were not afraid to tell GMC that the pickup’s interior was not good enough, which usually came before the humbling chuckles. Additionally, the most expensive Sierra, the Denali, was not well received either. The Denali’s interior sported a few slaps of “wood” on the door and center console. Nothing about the Sierra Denali echoed Ultimate, and the Ram 1500, Ford F-150 King Ranch, Ford F-150 Platinum took advantage of that. However, yesterday’s price is not today’s price, and the 2022 GMC Sierra is fully aware of that.  

For the 2022 model year, GMC opened the doors with its guns blazing by going above and beyond the Denali trim with the Denali Ultimate. Although the Denali, Denali Ultimate, and AT4X trim share a similar interior layout, the designs are far from what to expect from the usual Sierra. Furthermore, the automaker took it further by introducing a significantly different interior than the one traditionally shared with the Chevy Silverado. 

First, there’s the “Alpine Umber” for the “forge perforated leather seat trim.” The tan color is exclusively available for and solely belongs to the Denali Ultimate trim. Just a moment’s glance inside is all any enthusiast needs to feel like the King of Texas Ranch. While the regular Sierra Denali features Jet Black or “Atmosphere/Brownstone,” which is shades of brown. 

Embroidering the leather is white stitching that resembles the seams of a baseball or an old-school baseball glove. Be mindful that the 2021 Sierra Denali’s idea of luxury was simply strips of plastic that barely imitated wood. So the 2022 model year embodies excellence. 

Look anywhere, and the Sierra Denali Ultimate details a topographical pattern inscribed within the leather, and the wood trim accompanies coordinates for the Denali Mountain. Additionally, the topographical design resembles the one found in the Sierra’s little-big brother, the GMC Hummer EV. Moreover, the pattern appears on the door trim, map pockets, every outboard seat back, and the rubber tray in the center console’s armrest. Although the etching seems like a lot, the pattern is rather subtle; think about it, we’re talking about an expansive interior here.  

The gauge cluster debuts some much-needed improvement. The predecessor displayed a big color screen centered in between some bland parts-binny gauges. However, the 2022 model year welcomes a new digital cluster.

Excluding the base, every Sierra trim receives a 13.4-inch wide touchscreen display operating on the Android Automotive OS. Previously, the 2021 Sierra Denali offered an 8–inch touchscreen running on GM’s OS system. Additionally, the new Android Automotive system is simple and makes more extensive interfaces like RAM and Ford very nervous. 

However, all three trucks present a different jumbo screen layout. For instance, GM is widescreen, RAM is a portrait, and Ford a big-old tv. Nevertheless, big does not mean better because portrait and widescreen are simple to use, especially when your attention is required for the road. Moreover, there’s also a heads-up display. 

There are many interior features to love inside the new Sierra Denali Ultimate. Nonetheless, we want to thank GMC for taking an underwhelming interior and turning it into the Ultimate cabin.
