New Sports Bar Package Highlights 2024 GMC Canyon Updates

The 2023 model year marked the debut of the next-gen 2023 Canyon, and the 2024 model year brings a few updates for GMC’s midsize pickup truck. Among these updates, the 2024 GMC Canyon will soon be offered with a new sports bar package.

The Sports Bar Package (RPO code PCK) for the 2024 Canyon will be available as a dealer-installed option (LPO). Although this package is not yet available and pricing details remain undisclosed, it includes the following components:

• Bed-mounted sports bar, LPO (SBY)
• 40-inch Off Road Roof Light Bar, LPO (S3X)

This package also requires the Power Distribution Box (RPO code VBP) and the Accessory Switch Kit, LPO (RPO code VZJ). It is exclusively available on the Elevation, AT4, and AT4X trim levels, excluding the Denali and AT4X AEV Edition (RPO code XEV).

In other developments related to the GMC Canyon, the midsize truck experienced a significant sales increase in the first quarter of 2024, with a 9.3-percent rise to 5,484 units. Aside from the Canyon’s platform mate, the Chevy Colorado, the only other midsize pickup to report a sales jump in the same period was the Nissan Frontier.

Under the hood, the 2024 Canyon comes standard with the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine across all trim levels. This engine delivers 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, paired with the second-generation GM eight-speed automatic transmission. The drivetrain configurations include 2WD as standard on the Elevation trim, while 4WD is standard on all other models and optionally available on the Elevation.

Structurally, the Canyon is built on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, which it shares with the third-generation Chevy Colorado. Production of the 2024 Canyon takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
