2025 GMC Yukon Debuts with New Engines

Silver GMC Yukon Full Size SUV

Get ready for the bold and exciting debut of the 2025 GMC Yukon! The SUV, known for its adventurous spirit, is hitting the scene with a fresh mid-cycle refresh for its fifth generation, featuring revamped front and rear fascias, a wholly reimagined cockpit, cutting-edge towing technology, and more. But that’s not all—GMC is shaking things up with a new approach to engine options, and we’re diving into all the details.

For 2025, the GMC Yukon will propel through three impressive engine choices. First, there are two gasoline engines: the 5.3L V8 L84, which delivers 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, and the 6.2L V8 L87, pumping out a robust 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Then, there’s the all-new-for-2025 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and a massive 495 lb-ft of torque.

The 5.3L V8 L84 is standard on the entry-level Elevation and the rugged AT4 trims. Meanwhile, the 6.2L V8 L87 is the star of the show for the all-new AT4 Ultimate and Denali Ultimate trims and is available as an option on the AT4 without any extra prerequisites.

However, the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel adds a twist with its availability across all five trim levels—but with a catch. Depending on the enthusiasts’ chosen trim, specific packages and configurations must be selected to unlock this engine option. For instance, the AT4 Ultimate and Denali Ultimate can get the LZ0 without additional prerequisites, while other trims have various options and packages to consider.

Here’s a quick guide to getting your hands on that powerful LZ0 engine:

Elevation Trim Requirements:

  • Option 1: Super Cruise and Trailering Package, plus a second-row 60/40 split-folding bench with power release.
  • Option 2: Elevation Premium Package, Super Cruise, and second-row bucket seats with power release.

AT4 Trim Requirements:

  • Option 1: AT4 8-Passenger Premium Off-Road Package with a second-row 60/40 split-folding bench.
  • Option 2: AT4 Premium Plus Package.
  • Option 3: Premium Trailering Package, Technology Package, and Super Cruise.

Denali Trim Requirements:

  • Option 1: Advanced Technology Package with Super Cruise.
  • Option 2: Denali Reserve Package with Super Cruise and second-row bucket seats.
  • Option 3: Denali Reserve Package, Premium Capability Package with Active Response 4WD, and Super Cruise.
  • Option 4: Denali Reserve Package, Air Ride Suspension, and Super Cruise.

Underneath its stunning new design, the 2025 GMC Yukon continues to utilize the GM T1 platform, the same solid foundation that has supported the Yukon since the 2021 model year. Production kicks off on October 7th, 2024, at the GM Arlington Assembly plant in Texas, where other iconic SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, and Cadillac Escalade come to life.

The 2025 GMC Yukon is ready to roar into the market with fresh looks, innovative features, and versatile powertrains to match every driver’s needs. Stay tuned for more updates, including pricing details, as we approach the official release date!
