The 2022 Buick Envision Plus Launches in China

General Motors (GM) launched the Buick Envision Plus for the Chinese market with high expectations. The Buick Envision gets even better with the addition of “Plus” in its name, indicative of a larger and improved version of the standard Buick Envision that offers more vehicle features. Consumers now have the option to upgrade to the Plus Edition for a more upscale and enhanced driver’s experience. The compact SUV segment is very popular in China and Buick is relying on the newly released Plus Edition to increase its sales exponentially.           

Although only offered for the Chinese market, it is not entirely out of the question that the Plus Edition won’t be available for sale in the U.S. No news currently indicates that Buick plans to sell the upgraded Envision to American consumers, but it’s still a proposition on the table.   

Launching the Envision Plus

The Buick Envision Plus launches at the SAIC-GM Dong Yue plant in the city of Yantai with GM’s goal being to position the nameplate as the nation’s best-selling family vehicle. Family oriented-consumers are the ideal target market for Buick in China, offering style, performance, premium vehicle features, and enhanced technology for consumers to enjoy. The Plus Edition offers more interior room than the standard model with five and seven-passenger seating arrangments making the Envision Plus an ideal family vehicle.

Vehicle Characteristics

The Plus Edition has several new features, such as a wheelbase length that is larger by 8 inches, a more upright front grille with chrome accents, including a longer and flatter roofline. For the rear, a chrome strip is now present between the taillights with the addition of dual chrome exhaust outlets. For technology-minded consumers, the Plus Edition features Buick’s newest generation infotainment system called “eConnect” which relies on AI from Chinese company Baidu and operates on an 8-inch LCD touchscreen.

Performance and Powertrain 

A mild-hybrid powertrain mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission propels the Envision Plus forward with the help of its turbo 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine that puts out 237hp and 259 lb-ft of torque. This is plenty of power to get going on the highway and on any road offering the driver ample acceleration.

Trim Levels and Pricing

With a total of five models to choose from spread across three trim levels, the 2022 Buick Envision Plus offers consumers more buying options than ever before that include the base Elite, the mid-tier Luxury trim, and the top-of-the-line Avenir. Pricing for the models ranges from as low as $35,550 or 229,900 CNY* (plus destination fee) to as high as $47,920 or 309,900 CNY* (plus destination fee).
