Next-Generation GMC Acadia will Be Larger
It looks like Texans should stop screaming, ‘Everything is bigger in Texas,’ as General Motors announces that the Acadia will also grow in size. Although GM announced the expansion in August 2020, the automaker seems ready to follow through. Ushering in the third generation, the Acadia will graduate from mid-size to full-size crossover. When the mid-size SUV initially launched in 2007, it premiered as a three-row model. Over time, the Acadia transformed its second generation and downsized considerably, competing in a new segment.
It wasn’t until recently that the automotive Generals declared that the third-generation Acadia would become larger than its predecessor. Then, during a presentation at the GM Investor Day event, the automaker’s President, Mark Reuss, discussed plans for future products.
“Alongside the Traverse, we’ll move the GMC Acadia to a little bit different size standpoint. This comes in a little bigger than the old Acadia, so it’s a big transformation for GMC and its part of the market. “Very handsome, very much GMC truck premium. It’s really just a Professional Grade SUV in this three-row category for us.”
– General Motors President, Mark Reuss
The third-generation GMC Acadia will premiere sometime in 2024 and possibly as a 2024 or 2025 model. In addition to the resize, the future full-size SUV will reveal a reimagined exterior and interior style. The GMC Acadia may cruise along on the modified GM C1 or C1-2 platform. Moreover, onboard tech features include GM Super Cruise and the driver assistance feature.
There’s so much speculation surrounding what will find its home underneath the shell of the next-generation GMC Acadia. For instance, the naturally aspirated, 3.6-liter V6 LGX gas engine appeals as a compelling contender, but so does the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 LSY gas engine, but so does the 2.7-liter inline-4 L3B gas engine. Production for the third-generation Acadia will commence alongside the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Lansing, Michigan.
