Here’s What to Expect from the 2024 GMC Acadia
GM’s decision to grow the 2024 GMC Acadia was based on several factors. The American automaker wanted to create a vehicle that could compete more directly with the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot. To do that, GM needed to make the Acadia larger to provide more interior space and cargo capacity. Additionally, GM wanted to offer more advanced features and technology in the new Acadia, and the larger size allowed for more room to integrate these features. The result is a third-generation Acadia that is more capable, spacious, and advanced than its predecessor.
“We do a lot of research throughout the years to see what our customers want. We do this throughout a model’s life cycle, not just during the launch process. We also look at segment trends. And what we see is demand for more room, and demand in the industry overall, and not just in the segment. So we saw a need for more space in customer feedback, hence the larger size.”
-GMC Acadia Marketing Manager Katherine Weber
GM responded to customer demand for larger utility vehicles with the 2024 GMC Acadia. The new model is significantly larger than its predecessor, with increased length, width, and height dimensions. Specifically, the wheelbase is longer by 8.4 inches, the overall length is longer by 10.6 inches, and the height is taller by 3.2 inches. The Acadia’s larger size provides more interior space, including an 80-percent increase in cargo room behind the third row. Despite the increase in size, the Acadia still seats seven to eight passengers, depending on the configuration selected.
The first-generation GMC Acadia was already a relatively large vehicle, with dimensions similar to the new third-generation model. However, the second-generation model was noticeably smaller, positioning it more as a midsize vehicle with three rows of seating. By growing the Acadia again, GM returned to a larger size that is more in line with the first-generation model, indicating that the automaker believes there is still a significant market for larger utility vehicles despite the trend towards smaller and more fuel-efficient models in recent years.
“It’s hit its objective, I wouldn’t say if it was more or less successful, actually [when compared to the larger, first-gen Acadia]. What I did like about the [second-gen Acadia] though is that it did give differentiation within the General Motors stable, and I always think that’s a good thing. The more differentiation we have, I tend to like that ”
-General Motors Global Vice President Duncan Aldred
