GMC Scores Well in New J.D. Power Study
GMC attained an adequate evaluation in the 2023 J.D. Power U.S Vehicle Dependability Study. The American automaker ranked fourteenth overall, and although the rating doesn’t seem appealing, it is above the industry benchmark. The automotive General placed behind the Japanese-based Mazda but exceeded the German automaker BMW.
The J.D. Power Study rated automakers on PP100 or Problems Per 100 vehicles. GMC revealed a PP100 figure of 175, while the first-place victor, Lexus, achieved 133. Other carmakers ranking after Lexus are Genesis with 144, Kia attained 152, and Buick achieved 159. The most alarming concerning Vehicle Dependability was Land Rover gaining a PP100 figure of 273.
Although General Motors earned the fourteenth sloth in the 2023 Dependability Study, it’s a step in the right direction from last year‘s (2022) score. The Big Red automaker once ranked seventeenth overall with a PP100 score of 192.
“It is typical in the automotive industry to roll out concepts and features by putting them in premium vehicles first. A bellwether for mass-market brands looking to adopt and implement these technology features into their portfolio is in two of the industry’s preeminent studies, the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) and the Vehicle Dependability Study. Connecting insights from the two studies better informs automakers by substantiating trends and showcasing how some automakers are preventing problems from occurring early on and throughout the ownership experience.”
-Frank Hanley, Senior Director of Auto Benchmarking at J.D. Power
J.D. Power issues the Vehicle Dependability Study yearly. The evaluation analyzes automobiles based on 184 unique concerns and through nine significant categories. For example, the Dependability Study examined driving experience, driving assistance, exterior, features or displays, infotainment, interior, powertrain, HVAC controls, and comfort.
The U.S Vehicle Dependability Study collects information from owners, particularly consumers possessing 2020 model-year vehicles. Additionally, the Dependability study provides automotive brands and models with a Problem Per 100 Vehicle score (PP100), symbolizing the average difficulties owners encounter per 100 vehicles. The Yukon and Sierra are two vehicles that performed exceptionally well from the automotive General. Further, the GMC SUV and pickup earned segment-level praises in their respective analyses.
