Buick Hailed Above Average in 2023 JD Power APEAL Study

The latest (2023) J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study revealed that Buick, part of General Motors’ premium brand, achieved a few points above the segment average. The APEAL study indicates that consumers are slightly more satisfied with their Tri-Shield vehicle than average. 

The 2023 J.D. Power APEAL Study shows that the overall satisfaction of car buyers has decreased for two consecutive years. In the 2023 report, Buick ranked ninth among all automotive brands with a score of 841 out of a possible 1,000 points. Placing the Encore GX maker ahead of Ford, which scored 838, but just behind Nissan, which scored 843. Furthermore, the segment average was 837, indicating that Buick performs slightly better than the industry average.

Based on 84,555 responses, the JD Power study examines new 2023 model-year vehicles. The APEAL study examined car owners after 90 days of ownership, and the results were surprising. Nine of the ten measuring factors declined year-over-year. Moreover, the JD Power assessment was conducted from February 2023 to May 2023, based on vehicles registered from November 2022 to February 2023.

Despite the technology and design innovations that manufacturers put into new vehicles, owners are lukewarm about them. While innovations like charging pads, vehicle apps and advanced audio features should enhance an owner’s experience, this is not the case when problems are experienced. This downward trajectory of satisfaction should be a warning sign to manufacturers that they need to better understand what owners really want in their new vehicles.”
